The premium grey micro-velvet soft-padded jewelry box set, SH40, is one of our regular choices for light-luxury gifting and brand collaborations. It looks soft to the touch, but its "firmness" comes entirely from the board inside. This particular set is one we reach for again and again because the grey reads quiet and expensive at the same time.
The outside is textured velvet — fine feel, but soft on its own and unable to hold a shape. What actually makes the box stand up is the rigid board sandwiched between the velvet and the lining: most factories use 1000 to 1500 gsm duplex board, or board laminated with a high-density panel. If the board is too light, the corners collapse under pressure and the lid will not spring back flat. When we sample, we load the box with weights and leave it overnight, then check the next day whether the corners are still straight.
Covering the board with velvet is where the skill shows. The adhesive must be spread evenly — too thick and it will not dry through and bubbles form, too thin and the edges lift. After spreading, a roller flattens the velvet and aligns the nap in one direction. On the same panel, with-nap and against-nap look like two shades under counter lighting; many small workshops simply ignore this. Inside we add a layer of EVA or pearl cotton, which both cushions and helps the board keep its form, so the jewelry does not rattle. It is slow work, but it is the difference between a box that looks cheap and one that looks considered.
The magnetic closure is another hurdle. Magnets sit in the edges of the lid and base, with pull force usually tuned to 400–500 gauss. Too strong and the customer has to yank the lid open; too weak and the box pops open by itself, which is far riskier in transit. We test the opening force on ten pieces from each batch and adjust the whole lot if they fail. The polarity of the magnets in a set must also line up — fit one backwards and the two halves push apart instead of attracting.
The matte champagne-gold metal nameplate uses an in-slot method: we route a channel the exact thickness of the plate, dab glue, and press it in. Never use a stick-on patch to save time, because patches always lift later. The set — a large storage box, a medium square box, a long box, a mini box, and a flip ring box — shares one tooling, with lining cavities molded per category so rings and pendants each have their own spot and nothing slides around.
When we sample, we run a test most factories skip: we load the whole set with weights and simulate stacked parcels, then check after three days whether the lids still snap shut and whether the velvet shows pressure marks. Before shipping, every box passes under a light to catch weak magnets and uneven plates. The set goes into a five-layer outer carton with corner protectors, and in humid months we add moisture packs so the velvet does not mildew at the customer's end.
The usual failures are few: bubbled velvet, misaligned magnets that will not close, and lifting nameplates. For a stiffer box you can switch to microfiber or PU, but neither gives you the warm feel of micro-velvet. Which to pick comes down to whether you value the feel or the durability. If you are ordering in volume, ask for one sample set and open it a few hundred times yourself — that tells you more than ten product photos.

磁吸开合是另一道坎。磁铁藏在翻盖和底盒的边缘，吸力一般调到四百到五百高斯。太强，客人开盖要使劲，体验差；太弱，盒子自己弹开，运输途中更危险。我们一般每批抽十只测开合力，不合格的整批调。套装里的磁铁极性还得对齐，左右装反，两片互相推开，根本吸不上。
哑光香槟金金属标牌，用的是嵌槽式：先开一道和标牌同厚的槽，点胶再压入，不能图省事用贴片，贴片过阵子必翘边。套装里大号收纳盒、中号方盒、长条盒、迷你盒加翻盖戒指盒，共用一套版，内衬卡位按品类开模，戒指位、吊坠位分开，首饰不会在盒里乱晃。
打样时我们还会做一项多数厂省略的测试——把套装整组压砝码、模拟快递堆叠，看三天后翻盖还扣不扣得牢、绒面有没有被压出印子。出厂前逐只过灯光，磁吸吸不吸得上、标牌平不平，一眼就能挑出来。运输也讲究，整套入五层外箱，棱角加护角，南方返潮季还得塞防潮珠，不然到客户手里绒面起霉点。
常见的翻车就那几样：绒面起鼓、磁吸错位吸不上、标牌翘边。要更挺括可以换超纤或PU，但微绒的温润感是它们给不了的。选哪种，看你是重质感还是重耐用。真要批量定，先打一套样盒自己压一压、开合几百次，比看十张宣传图都管用。
