But it has a trap: in the same bath, two degrees' difference in bath temperature shifts the tone cool or warm. We pull three pieces from each batch against the colour card; if they miss, we adjust the whole bath, because once several thousand are done they are all off.
The part that holds the watch is a microfiber cylinder, not hard plastic. Hard plastic rubs the strap and leaves a mark on the back after a while — the customer is not happy. The microfiber needs enough density: too loose and a finger press leaves a slow dent; too hard and it does not cradle the watch. We sit at medium density — press and it returns, hold a strap and it does not collapse. The cylinder diameter has to match the case; men's and women's watches differ a lot, so the set ships with a few swappable cushions the client picks by their own models.
Counterweight is the part people miss. On a live-stream table or a crowded counter, a knock tips the stand and a dropped watch hurts more than ten dropped stands. We fill the base with weight and drop the centre of gravity low; flat surface, it stays. The bottom gets a velvet anti-slip pad, so it will not slide on a glass case either.
Clip or magnet? We went clip-first, magnet-assist. Pure magnet is unstable and a heavy watch leans; pure clip is fiddly to swap when the store changes pieces daily. The clip seats with a click, fast to change and steady.
Glare under counter light also needs handling. Champagne gold is a bright finish; a spot lamp turns it into a mirror and eats the watch's own reflection. So we matte the frame locally, keep the bright gold only on the edge strips, and lower the front gloss so the light lands on the watch, not the stand.
Modularity is the selling point. Several stands clip into a row or break apart for solo display; the slot tolerance is held within half a millimetre so the seams line up and nothing wobbles. More modules means more parts, so each set ships bagged separately, screws and cushions sealed on their own — the store assembles, which also saves freight and volume.
In transit the gold frame is what fears scuffing. We wrap each stand in bubble film before the carton and add corner protectors; after months in a sea container it still comes out clean. Daily care is simple: brush the microfiber cushion one direction for dust, never a wet cloth — water in the seam will not dry and goes mouldy. Wipe the frame with a dry cloth, no wax; wax builds up and goes cloudy. A few dozen stands take ten minutes a year.
On custom runs, watch the bath colour drift the same way you watch leather dye. For small reorders keep the first sample and compare each incoming lot. Do not cut cost on the base weight or cushion density — that is what lets the stand stand and hold.
