Necklace busts: shaping the neck curve and holding the chain
In necklace display, the quietest and yet most demanding piece is the bust. The lbobo model SJ15 uses a brushed-leather surface, not glossy PU. Up close, brushed leather has a fine grain that breaks up the light instead of reflecting it into one hot spot, so the necklace's shadow reads with depth. A glossy bust turns into a bright blob under a spotlight and the chain disappears into it.
The curve of the neck form is the whole game. A necklace on a bust should show how it looks worn, so the neck needs a natural forward tilt and a hint of collarbone. SJ15 is shaped to real neck-and-shoulder proportions: a long chain falls against the chest, a short or clavicle chain sits at the base of the neck without floating. Cheap busts make the neck a straight tube, and the chain hangs like laundry line — zero sense of being worn.
Choosing the size is detailed work. The same bust comes in white, black and brown, and each colour in five sizes. Why so many? Because chain length and pendant size change the neck length and base width you need. Fine chains want a small bust; a heavy chain with a big pendant needs a wide-shoulder version, or the whole thing looks top-heavy. When we kit out a client we often reverse-engineer the size from their hero piece, not just ship whatever.
Load matters too. A bust looks light, but hang four or five metal chains with pendants and the weight shifts forward; a weak base nods. SJ15 has added weight at the bottom and a non-slip top, so a full load stays put. Shops feel this daily — pulled on and off dozens of times, a flimsy bust leans within weeks.
At sampling we often show a client two skins under the same spotlight — brushed and glossy — and watch where the chain's shadow lands. Nine times out of ten they pick brushed; the glossy one swallows the chain. This step costs nothing extra, just one extra sample skin, but it saves a wrong turn.
The neck angle is adjustable too. A brand pushing long chains gets a touch more forward tilt so the drape flows; one built on clavicle chains gets a shallower curve so the chain sits in the hollow. Standard parts cannot do this — it needs a mould. We take small runs, but the tooling spreads into the unit price, so each piece costs a bit more for an on-brand result.
Brushed leather has another virtue: it takes abuse. A counter gets touched all day; glossy leather keeps fingerprints and scratches, while the brushed grain hides them. A damp cloth wipes it clean, unlike velour which soaks up oil on contact.
For international orders we run this set a lot. White, black and brown suit different markets — Europe leans cool white, the Middle East likes deep brown with gold edges, North America takes mixed tones. We ship the busts knocked down: neck form and base separate, client clicks them together on arrival. That halves the shipping volume and brings the freight down.
Before they leave, we test-assemble every unit: does the neck form click tight into the base, does the top sit flat without rocking, and are there bubbles or seam marks on the brushed surface. Anything off goes back. First-time single-store owners are often surprised the bust is heavier than expected — that bit of weight and the solid core are exactly why it stands steady.
When picking a bust, remember three things: brushed not glossy surface, a worn curve in the neck, and a weighted anti-slip base. Hit all three and the necklace speaks for itself.

Junyimei — present every jewel and timepiece at its best.
