The watch display stand S9 is a bold black-and-orange set, tiered, that already presents the watches in three dimensions. But if the spotlights are off, a strip of glare lands on the orange edge and the dial goes flat. So the first task of the morning shift is to walk each watch with a torch, checking that the light pool sits around the six-o'clock position.
A true story. A new hire once set the watches on the S9 stand and walked off, leaving yesterday's light angles.
